| The
Development of Language
Contemporary studies
have confirmed some of María Montessori¹s
views that concern language. For example, her idea that
the acquisition of language is a natural process developed
spontaneously by children has been proven.
It is precisely them
who carry out practical exercises that form the base
for their movement control, and who work with sensorial
materials that enrich their intellect; moreover, they
literally experience an explosion in reading and writing
skills.
Our language exercises
begin with pre-reading and pre-writing skills, which
include the expansion of vocabulary, phonetics and the
mechanics of writing. It is common in Montessori classes
that children learn how to write and read earlier than
expected: a true and natural ability found within them.
