We have a wide range of activities

Please check out our annual and monthly calendars, and take notice of special activities and schedules. Please contact the secretary or the correspondent guide if you have not received your calendar at the start of each month.

We ask you to pay special attention to the letters and memorandums that will be sent to you frequently, since they contain important information that concern both children and teachers.

We are always well informed

We want to maintain an open communication from our school to your home. We will have various methods of formal and informal communication throughout the year.

We carry out interviews with each parent that brings a new child to our community, since we need to be informed about the physical and emotional states of the child up to that date. We also hold an “Open House” during the first days of school, which we use to expose the Montessori system, the future activities for the current year, and other random issues of interest for parents. Twice a year we have individual evaluations with parents, so that you can be informed about their progress in every aspect.

If you wish to talk to the guide at any given time, please call us so we can coordinate a meeting. We will make arrangements before or after school hours for urgent or specific issues.

We need to be notified of changes

Your child’s security is our priority. We therefore ask you to notify us immediately if you have a change in the direction of your house, telephone number, or the status of the person that picks up your child. Your son/daughter will never be handed out to a person without your previous authorization.

Well dressed

The use of the complete uniform is an obligation, since we have chosen clothing that is comfortable, easily washable and appropriate for the climate.

It is required for your son/daughter to have a complete change of clothes in the school, in case their clothes get dirty or he/she suffers an accident. Please include intimate clothing, socks, a shirt, short, skirt or pants. Place your child’s name on each item so that it will not be mistaken. In case that the extra set of clothes is used, we will ask for it to be replaced the following day. Our children must wear the complete school uniform on every field trip.

“A time to think it over”

Even though behavior problems on our classrooms are rare, there are cases when some disciplinary action has to be taken. The child might be given “a time to think it over” and will sit apart from the rest of the group for some minutes. Discipline is managed in a comprehensive and positive manner. In some occasions, the parents will be asked to pick up the child before the accustomed time. If the inappropriate behavior persists, the child can be retired from the program.

Corporal chastise will never be used under any circumstance.

Happy birthday!

The children’s birthday is a very special occasion. If you wish for celebrations to be held in the school, please notify the teacher in advance, so that necessary adjustments can be made. We have prepared a list of choices for festivities that we will happily hold. Please limit yourself to what is found there.

The celebrations do not have gifts, candy bags or invitations. They are simple, but we make sure to make them special.

Parental Visits are Welcome

Observing children at work inside the classrooms can be a wonderful experience for parents. We love to have you as visitors. Please establish the time for your visit with the teacher.

“Show and Tell”

The purpose of this activity is to develop language and strengthen self esteem. Children expose to the group subjects of interest and show their special objects.

Please do not send toys unless they are specifically requested by the teacher.

My “great works”

Your child will have time to work with materials every day inside our prepared environment during “working time.” Children are willing to learn and work at their own rhythm, carrying out activities that are appropriate for their necessities. We begin every day with an individual work cycle. We also have a “time in the line” for lessons in groups, in which we share experiences, expose diverse subjects, sing and do other activities.

In the Montessori prepared environment children are occupied with the available activities. The majority of these tasks are done with concrete materials that are open to manipulability. You will thus rarely see your child arriving home with work done on paper. We will monthly send you an envelope with various activities that your son/daughter has performed. We suggest you to keep some of these precious jobs.

We have “fieldtrips”

During the year me have field trips to interesting places from our community. You will be notified with anticipation and be asked to sign a document were you authorize your child to go. An additional fee will be charged for admission and transportation. We will sometimes ask for a healthy snack that your child can eat during the trip.

Parents may be invited depending of the place. You will have to pay the same fees for transportation (in case you take our bus) and admission as your child. Your company, if required, will be a great contribution to maintaining control of our group.

We take care of your children

If your child has a contagious disease, please let us know immediately. If it is fever, diarrhea, vomiting, a strong common cold, coughing or lice please don’t send your child to school. We cannot accept sick children in our classes to avoid the disease to pass to other children. If your son/daughter gets sick during classes, we will call you to pick him/her up. He will remain at rest, accompanied and under constant supervision until you arrive.

If your child must take medicines during the school day, please send us the drug in its original container with the appropriate instructions written by the doctor. In case we cannot contact you in a major emergency, we will call for medical attendance of take your child to the National Children’s Hospital or another health center that is nearby.

“Lost and found”

In each classroom we have a special box where we store items that are lost of left behind. The box should be checked periodically. Please send every item well identified to school. Items that are left in the “lost and found” box at the end of the year will be donated to charity.

What do we eat?

Our school will daily provide your children with a healthy and balanced meal. Children from Home Two-Montessori after-school will receive a full lunch as well as a mid-afternoon snack. We will hold cooking lessons monthly in our classrooms, and ask each child to bring one ingredient for the recipe. The children should bring a disposable meal whenever they have fieldtrips. An appropriate nutrition will certainly contribute to the quality of your child’s work at school and develop a sane attitude towards alimentation.

Parking

We ask you to always respect the zone for the school bus. For the security of your children and consideration to other parents, if your car is not well parked please do not delay your visit to our campus. Please do not park your car in spaces of nearby homes or neighbors. Never leave your car open or with visible belongings inside. Remember to always transport your child with an appropriate infant security chair or wearing the seat belt tightly fastened.

Payment

Monthly payments should be between the first and tenth day of each month. A weekly increase will be added to the charge if delayed. There are no partial monthly payments in case of family trips or diseases. Corresponding payments will be held according to the current month, regardless if the child attends for only some days. Payments are held from the school months of February to November. During April the fee for the eleventh month must be paid. Please do your payments at our office and we recommend you to store your receipts.
